Are you seeing the same issue with both these batteries? Are you not able to charge any of them?

How much current is drawn off VSYS and VOUTB? If it is very high, it could be a thermal issue and the IC could end up in thermal reset.

Hi Andres,

The circuit looks OK. Here are a few things to try:

Let us know where you ordered the battery, and we will order one fore ourselves. We will then try to reproduce the issue.
Try setting up nPM1100 EK with your batter and see if anything is different.
Try removing the battery monitoring circuit(for example by removing R4.
Connect an oscilloscope to VBAT. Capture using a approx. a 10 second window.

It would make sense for the battery to disable the OVP when charging starts, currently we are using off the shelf batteries (501012 -45mah, 701517 - 100mah). To the vbat, we only have the battery and the battery monitor circuit

We will do some tests using the ERR to see what is going on. To the VBAT we only have the battery and the battery monitoring circuit.

ERR pin should bring a clue (If you get this pin toggled after re-connecting the USB cable). Also, do have anything else connected to VBAT pin, besides the battery? Could you share the related part of the schematic?

Hi dpmioni, So we are using a USB micro to recharge the battery. We have not detected this reduced current when this issue occurs. On the other hand, when battery over the cut-off threshold the charging current is exactly as expected.

What should happen is the battery detection circuit disables the OVP in the battery cell and charging starts. Could you please share some more details on the battery? Is anything else connected to the VBAT pin on the nPM1100? Would you be happy to share the schematic, especially for anything connected to the VBAT pin?

Hi Andres. How are you trying to recharge the battery when it gets fully empty? Are you reconnecting the USB cable? It is expected that, after reconnecting the USB cable, the nPM1100 tries to pull-up the battery with reduced current for a short period, before effectively start charging.

Hi!

So the CHG pin is low and the LED does not turn on in the situation previously described (it does when the battery voltage is over the cutting voltage threshold). We have not checked the ERR pin yet, as we are not using it with an LED.

We are pretty sure the battery is not being charged when below the cut-off threshold as no current is flowing to the battery.

Interesting situation. What is the status of the charging indication pin CHG and charging error indication pin ERR when this occurs? Do they sink current?
