My app works fine in VSCode with the nrf52 on a RF9160DK, but fails to run/debug when built for the dongle and J-Link.

I used VSCode to compile the same code (both blinky and my app), but changed the target board from the nRF52840dongle_nrf52840 to nRF52840dk_nrf52840 and now both codes work with an external supply.

So there must be some configuration discrepancy between the two.

Perhaps it has to do with the presence of the DFU bootloader and startup vector or something.

RE: nRF52840 dongle with J-Link EDU Mini fails in VSCode debugging and also fails with external power supply

I took an un-modified dongle and programmed the blinky hex file using DFU and the Programmer 3.0.0.

Then modified it for external supply...yes it apparently worked (blinks) from 3.3v external supply.

RE: nRF52840 dongle with J-Link EDU Mini fails in VSCode debugging and also fails with external power supply

Hi there,

I was able to flash and execute the blinky example on the Dongle with NCS v1.8.0.

If you set the device in DFU mode, does it show up on your computer? Can you try to reprogram the bootloader by following this guide?
