provision Thingy91 on nRF cloud without Ibasis SIM

Hi,

I bought a Thingy91 and the device includes a SIM card from Ibasis that is needed to get the device provisioned to the webpages. When I try to provision it, I am prompted with a message saying the SIM card has expired and that I need to contact Ibasis to get a new one. I have done that, but it is not a very good experience when the device is delivered with an expired SIM card.

How can I get the device provisioned on the nRF cloud on a separate SIM card not from Ibasis?

  • Hello,

I'm really sorry to hear about your experience, and unfortunately we are very aware of this. The issue is with iBasis, and there isn't much we can do other than contact them and ask for a new SIM.

That said, you do not need the SIM to provision/register the board to nRF Cloud. You can use any IoT SIM, which support NB-IoT or LTE-M, to register the device to nRF Cloud. In nRF Cloud, when your register a new device, just skip the step regarding iBasis SIM.

    Kind regards,
    Øyvind
