nRF Connect v1.9 and Nordic Distance Toolbox

Hi all.

Las Febuary 21, I received a Product Update Notification mail from Nordic, saying:

...We've just released a new version of the nRF Connect SDK, v1.9. This release adds experimental support for the Nordic Distance Toolbox (NDT) for nRF52833 and nRF52840 SoCs. More devices will be added over time. The toolbox provides a software package which adds phase-based distance measurement support in an easy to use interface. In house testing has confirmed that the NDT solution is significantly more accurate than RSSI based solutions. RSSI estimates are heavily influenced by the environment while phase-based solutions are a lot less impacted...

Is this "phase-based distance measurement support" referring to AoA/AoD technique, or is something new? And if is new, where can I find more details?

Hi Juan,

The phase-based measurement is different from the AoA/AoD technique.. The Nordic Distance Toolbox is a proprietary library delivered with the nRF Connect SDK.. The examples lists the 52840 as a supported device for the distance toolbox.

Is this correct? As I remember it, the 52840 didn't support phase data; only the NRF5340 and 52833 did.

Has this changed?

The nRF52840 does not support Bluetooth 5.1 Direction Finding (AoA/AoD) I&Q data but it still supports NDT. These features are not correlated.
