nRF Connect Programmer v3.0.1 - FW upgrades (SiP FW, SiP App...) impossible (Thingy:91)

GReetings,

Having a hard time using nRF Connect v3.11.1 for Desktop freshly installed on a Windows based laptop (Windows 10 Family 21H2)

J-Link V7.58b was installed simultaneously as well.

With Programmer v3.0.1 it is now just impossible to perform FW upgrades on my Thingy91 kit (version 1.0.2 - 2020.13; nRF9160 B0 chipset)

1) Thingy:91 device is connected via USB cable, and successfully recognized (2 COM ports visible)

Once Thingy91 is connected (SW3 button pressed while switching SW1 to the ON position) it can be successfully selected on Programmer using the Select Device menu.

FW file can be properly selected via the Add File command / Browse (file mfw_nrf9160_1.3.2.zip in my case), but NOTHING happens when the "Write" button is clicked.

See log below:

22:51:22.655 Update files regions according to Application core
22:51:22.655 Parse memory regions for file
22:51:29.135 Checking ZIP file: D:\Francois\NORDIC_STUFF\Thingy91\DEZIP_thingy91_fw_2022-06-02_880c82db\mfw_nrf9160_1.3.2.zip
22:51:29.135 File was last modified at 08/06/2022, 21:43:23
2) Same behaviour when trying to upgrade the SIP Application (using thingy91_asset_tracker_v2_nbiot_2022-06-02_880c82db.hex for example)
Can you please fix the nRF Connect suite, and make sure it can be successfully used with Thingy91 ?

  • I get to work this morning and updated the app and thought my day was ruined.
I have since worked out a way to roll back to v3.0.0 which should get you back up and running (and any others).

    This applies  to Windows 10.
    1. Browse to %USERPROFILE%/.nrfconnect-apps

    2. Modify updates.json so that the pc-nrfconnect-programmer reads 3.0.0

    3. Run the nrf connect for desktop app and quickly click update on the programmer app. It should say v3.0.0 is available.
    - if you are too slow the app will search for updates from the Nordic server and 3.0.0 will no longer be available
